Sad but true, this action packed blog spot is closing its doors as I have moved to myspace - the place where (some) humans really do exist.

Although I swore I would never succumb to having a place on that "advert infested hell-hole" (hat tip to Milorad in days of old), but lets face it nearly everyone in the world is on myspace and it is kinda fun.

So I formally say adieu to this blogspotting craze which ended over a year ago.

Blue Screen error - nightmares!

My relatively new computer suffers from continual blue screen crashes >.<
My computer was designed for Vista so I'm hoping its just a reaction to horrible XP, am upgrading to Vista soon :)

In the meantime I've found some instructions for curing blue screen crashes which seem to work.

Make sure to follow them exactly, if you leave anything out then *pow* its back to square one.
Good luck!!

Blue screen error fix…

Switch computer on – select F2 and enter BIOS
- change boot options to CD as first boot type
- Put Windows XP CD in drive and boot to CD (do not do repair option)
- Press “R” for recovery console
- Enter operating system number (will probably be 1)
- Enter admin password (or hit enter if there is none)

A screen will now come up with the prompt C:\Windows

Type in: CHKDSK /R
NB ->make sure to leave a space after the K before the /

Hit enter.

It may take up to 20 minutes for the check to complete itself.

When done type “exit” and hit enter.

Then go back into BIOS and change the computer to start normally (hard drive as first option) instead of CD first.

Hopefully it will start up and work ok now!!

When you go back in used CHKDSK to check system files as well:

Go to -> Start -> My computer ->right click the drive to scan (eg. C drive) -> menu properties -> tools -> click “check now” -> click both boxes

Young Divas Review #2 - September 9 - Ricki-Lee, Emily Williams, Guy Sebastian, Paulini, Kate De Araugo

In my last review I said I might go again, so now I have.

I am shocked - either the Divas read my last review (unlikely) or a natural process over two months of performing has caused them to take on board and correct all the critical points I raised.

I never thought I'd say this but Emily Williams was FANTASTIC! She was note perfect and I have had "I Will Always Love You" going through my head - in a positive way all day.

Because of Guy's appearance song choices were culled in the Divas solo sets and much more appropriate. Kate gave Heaven the flick and also made a much more polished and vocally strong performance.

Unfortunately Ricki-Lee chose not to sing Being Human which was a shame.

Stand out performance for the night was once again Paulini's "So Over You" - absolutely sublime.

This time I actually got invited backstage. I met Ricki-Lee who was extremely polite to me and was really lovely to her other fans plus young doting family members of Paulini and Emily who were backstage.

Kate and Emily were a bit cooler but some of the guys I was with had photos taken with them nonetheless.

Paulini was lovely and even said "thanks for coming!".

Oh and the yellow "do not slip" sign in the second photo was the one that the girls put on the stage when Ricki-Lee starting singing along with an "anti-stack" kit - was hilarious. (Ricki stacked at the last Diva's performance we went to!). She was really gracious about it - even put the yellow sign on her head for a photo.

Critique – Young Divas Concert – Star City Showroom Sydney 15th July 2006

Not being a major fan of things “Idol” I was surprised to find myself (mostly) highly impressed with the Young Diva’s concert at Star City.

The girls boomed onto the stage with a raunchy first number, the quality of which surprised and impressed me – fortunately I was seated near the front of the stage on the left hand side – the “Paulini” end, and the power and quality of Paulini’s voice struck me immediately. After a couple of songs the girls left the stage – although to be honest at that point I would have been happy for more group numbers.

First solo artist up was Emily Williams. It’s a fairly well known fact that in order to retain musical credibility, noone other than Whitney Houston should sing Whitney. Emily sang “I will always love you”. Whilst there were moments of great power and loveliness in her voice & drawing the crowd in, unfortunately this was equaled by periods of weakness, or where she was either slightly off pitch or could not hold the notes for as long as the “Whitney” accustomed listener was expecting. She also covered a Tina Turner number, which was rocking and entertaining, however she relied heavily on the backing singer (who was in the background – thinner and less attractive than the Divas but who had one of the most outstanding voices I have ever heard). Emily’s fake American accent got on my nerves a little too – I fully understand that one must learn to “speak” and it’s a very difficult task to beat the kiwi accent (I’ve been trying for years!), however I believe her stage repartee still needs a little work.

Next up – I was disappointed to note (only because I was hoping she’d be in the second half when the crowd was really warmed up) was Ricki-Lee. Ricki looked absolutely fabulous with her hair dyed dark and she wore some excellent costume choices – a big girl by conventional (model/starvation) based standards, Ricki says an up yours to convention and proves herself to be one very sexy gal. First up Ricki got her throat around a fantastic version of the not-so-fantastic song “Hell No” which I thoroughly enjoyed. She followed this with her new single “Being Human” a very good rock song, bound to be a big hit, which highlights the strength of her booming soulful voice. The only thing that concerned me was that she too relied quite heavily on the fabulous backing singer while performing this song. Nonetheless the quality of Ricki’s voice was evident, I suspect that performing three concerts within two days may have been taking its toll on her stamina. However in the group songs Ricki-Lee by far stood out as the best singer/performer and exuded the most personality and ability to banter with the crowd.

After half-time it was Paulini’s turn. Wow. I had no idea she would be so amazing. This girl never ever hits a wrong note; she belted out Thelma Houston and Aretha with consummate ease. She was a bit “cooler” with the crowd in terms of friendliness but came across as by far the most polished performer. Paulini looked fantastic. Since being on that Celebrity melt down programme she has a fabulous figure and her legs are awesome. She wore a short blue, glittery sequin dress reminiscent of a young Tina Turner. The quality of her voice and performance was so superb that it would not have been out of place in a 1960s Motown revue.

Last up was Kate De Araugo. Kate delivered her sweetie pie numbers, starting with “Faded”, then she sat down and sang us “Heaven”. Everyone seems to love her version of this song, however I find it a little scratchy. She provided the crowd with warm fuzzy moments though by holding the microphone out to the crowd so we could sing the “when you’re lying here in my arms” parts back to her. She then sang Chaka Khan’s “Aint Nobody” which was her best song of the night. She then left us with a slightly teary eyed rendition of that #1 hit single she had after the Australian Idol final.

The girls then returned to the stage for a couple more numbers and got most of the Saturday night crowd up dancing (except me!). They finished up with, of course their hit single “This Time I Know its For Real”, which still irritates me because of its awful Stock Aitken Waterman backing track which doesn’t seem to have been modernised from the 1980s version. Nonetheless, vocally it was great and the performance was entertaining. It appears no standing ovation was expected and the girls said goodbye.

I suspect that young people, and also those old enough to remember the 1960s & ‘70s first time around, as well as hardcore Idol fans would have thoroughly enjoyed the concert. I am none of those, yet overall I felt the girls gave a great performance and was well worth 50 odd bucks for the ticket. I would consider seeing this one again.

Its amazing how many sites have been set up with great enthusiasm and subsequently abandoned (at times including mine).

It worries me that cyberspace will run out of storage room, lol, altho I have had this conversation with Milorad in the past. (<< testing linkage skills there ;) . I guess I'm being silly but I cant help likening it to having stacks of archive storage boxes piling up higher and higher in the basement burgeoning....about to burst through the door and invade the world. Or something like that.

I used to one of the seemingly few die hard "Today" supporters who doesn't like "Sunrise" (unless Ricki-Lee's on it of course - comment posted for bleachy's benefit :p ) .

However this year I don't watch either. There's something about watching Jessica Rowe on the screen that's not quite right. She just doesn't seem suited to having a screen partner at all. Maybe it's because she's so much thinner, she looks misplaced, wrong. Bring back a real sized person please.

I always have mixed feelings of disdain and vague fascination when I hear stories of the Hef.

The H-Man is now 79 years old. In the last couple of years he rationalised his live in official girlfriends down from a group of 7, to a mere 3.

The #1 girl, Holly, is about 23 and is the top dog. She gets to share the Master Bedroom with the Hef full-time. The other two girls just get to visit there on demand.

The second tier girl, Bridget is now 31 and excpecting to get her marching orders soon, seeing as she and Mr Hef are practically in the same generation *insert rolleyes emoticon here*.

The number 3 gal is a very attractive 20 year old (surprise) blonde, but when interviewed she sees it all as a job "its better than flipping pizza" she says. When asked what their favorite things are about living in the Playboy Mansion, the other two girls say things like "Hef, cos he's funny" or the "such and such nite when we get together and have fun". Girl 3 however says her favourite nite is "Sunday nite because I get to watch sport in my room...alone".

The girls get an allowance of around $1500 US a week as well as all living and partying expenses paid. They also have an unlimited budget for beauty treatments. Its hard work though - they have to spend at least 4 hours per week at the hairdressers (not a millimeter of non-platinum hair will be tolerated so it seems). I really don't know if I could be bothered.

What is the Most Memorable Album cover ever?

I'm having a debate with someone about what is the most memorable album (visually) ever.

We both get Beatles albums - I say Sgt Peppers - he says Abbey Road. Also the Rolling Stones "Sticky Fingers" (featuring the tongue - when released the albums came with jeans on and a zipper you could undo).

Its not quite the same buying a CD for its artwork (bring back the record *sob*) but there must still be some distinctive modern albums out there.

Cringing at Andrew G interviewing Madonna

Watching "G" interview Madonna on the V Channel "Loving..." series this morning made me cringe to be (sort of) Australian.

I think G may have had some kind of boyish notion that he could sweep Madonna of her feet with his so called Aussie charm and fire a whole load of ordinary questions at her.

Madonna in return was cool as ice, managing the minutest of smiles at the end. I suspect she'd done a line of coke before she went in and wrote it down to an interview requiring 0 hours of preparation. She used the phrase "multi-tasking" in response to at least 3 different questions.

When they gave her her lines at the start she exclaimed "who wrote these!!"; In the opener they wanted her to say "Hi, I'm Madonna" (just in case someoone didn't know I guess). She pointed out that the Queen doesn't open a speech with "Hi I'm the Queen".

Madonna looked extremely thin though, and dare I say it - a little on the old side. I just don't know whats going on with that face, it looks nothing like the one from 10 years ago.

Why is Kate Ceberano still on TV?

Why is Kate Ceberano even on TV any more, she is sensationally annoying. After her shocking form on the X-Factor last year I would've thought she'd be sidelined to evening performances at the Zoo.

On Channel 9's "One hit Wonder" special tonight she insisted on singing nearly every song and jabbering on as only she does. Obviously she is frustrated for an audience to perfom to. Perhaps they should have a special on No Hit Wonders

Two 14 year old girls boast of killing disabled Sydney cabbie

This story absolutely sickens me to the core. What almost makes it worse is that they are girls, I mean normally we can blame males for nearly everything wrong in this life! But now here's living proof that there's sick young girls out there - apparently in court they appeared impassive and unremorseful and stood slouching with their hands in the pockets of their hooded tops.

Story follows, courtesy of CCH and AAP:

"SYDNEY, Feb 10 AAP - Two 14-year-old girls accused of murdering a disabled Sydney taxi driver had boasted to transit officers about killing him, a court was told today.

The teenage cousins are accused of repeatedly beating Youbert Hormozi, of Summer Hill, and leaving him to die in a darkened street at Canley Heights, in Sydney's south-west, on January 31.

The girls, of Liverpool and Canley Heights, are alleged to have stolen Mr Hormozi's mobile phone and taxi before dumping the car in nearby Bonnyrigg.

The 53-year-old divorced father of two, who had recently returned to work after a stroke, suffered massive head injuries and died on the way to Liverpool Hospital.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Graeme Wedge today told Lidcombe Childrens Court the girls had threatened two transit officers before their arrest on February 1.

"The girls said: 'Don't you know who we are? We are the girls who killed the taxi driver'," Sgt Wedge told the court.

He said they had then made death threats to the transit officers, who had asked the girls to present train tickets at Strathfield Station.

The girls have been charged with murder, aggravated robbery, stealing a motor vehicle, two counts of attempted robbery armed with an offensive weapon and one count of robbery with an offensive weapon.

Sgt Wedge today applied to the court for the girls to supply DNA evidence including mouth swabs, fingerprints and photographs to compare with evidence from the crime scene.

Magistrate John Crawford will make a decision on the application later today."

Crazy languages

They say to use mental hooks is a good way of remembering certain words when learning a new language. I recently read it suggested that the following connections might be made by the student.

In Spanish the word for pregnant is "embarazad" - the suggestion was made that you might think of a woman which is embarassed by her protruding belly as she walks the streets!! How dreadful!

Or in Russian the word for "often" is "tchyasta", it is suggested you might feature a young lady who when asked if she is chaste, answers, tchyasta. I'm not quite sure about the logic in that one!

Basic Russian Lesson #1

If you are an English speaking person you may find that learning Russian is a very difficult task - this language has many forms that do not exist in English. For example, many words that signify not live objects have word gender.

For example, "chair" in Russian is masculine but "stool" - feminine. Bedazzling, isn't it? It is quite common though in Russian that if a word ends with sound "-Ah" - it will be feminine and if a word ends with a consonant - then it is masculine.

However, this rule is not always true. Besides, to make things even messier, there is so called "middle" gender, non-masculine of feminine. For example, window and sun are of middle gender. How can you remember all this mess?

In many cases you have to memorize it by heart and only fall back for the rule described above if you don't know for sure what is the gender of this or that word.

Does anybody know French - L'Etoile

I have been having a discussion tonight in relation to the French word for star - etoile.

I know etoille itself is a feminine word, however my french is getting a little rusty. Sometimes you see this word referred to as "mon etoile" however mon is masculine, I have also seen many references to "ma bonne etoile" which is feminine - confusing!

Can anyone shed light on which, if any of these are correct. Do some French nouns have the ability to gender bend?

RESPONSE - French Grammar lesson #1:

French nouns beginning with a vowel, such as etoile, will automatically take "mon" even where they are feminine nouns (although feminine nouns will take "ma" if an adjective is inserted in the middle) therefore both mon etoile and ma bonne etoile are correct.

This is because the French language doesn't like the jarred flow from vowel to vowel that would be created from a phrase such as "ma etoile" therefore it becomes "mon etoile instead.

Brokenback Mountain

It had to happen - a spoof on the tear-jerker movie is already in production.

The film is set to star a pallid looking slightly overweight failed Australian politician, riding alongside a kiwi-born Ocker with a mighty big gob, clutching an Oscar.

The main plot depicts Crowe and Latham reeking havoc by tormenting the public with their camera and phone smashing sprees. The film ends with the pair undertaking a long brawly drinking session at Souths Leagues club, after which they ride down to Cronulla together assaulting cab drivers and singing TOFOG songs, singlehandedly terrifying rioters away for ever.

The " Why Bother" Bio

It's mildly annoying the range of people who think they qualify to write a Biography nowadays.

Paris Hilton - of course, but I'm not even going to go there.
A classic example would be Geri Halliwell who at the ripe old age of 27 or so, wrote a best seller bio. OK so she was in the highest selling girl-group of all time, but in other respects she's hardly worthy of awe.

Other super "why bother' authors include Monica Lewinski - her bio is titled "Monica Speaks" - do we really need to read about Monica's life? No we don't. And why does she call it "Monica Speaks' when in truth we know that her talents can be described quite simply by two letters, which also happen to be my initials.

Whilst also on the Monica subject, Monica Seles also has a bio out - "Monica - from Fear to Victory", an incredibly boring read which makes the stabbing out to be the only remarkable event in Monica's life.

It's so ridiculous that you'd think even Tonya Harding would have a book out. Oh wait! I just checked Amazon and sure enough there it is "Fire on Ice: The Exclusive Story of Tonya Harding" which amazingly ranks at 3 out of 5 stars. There are Tonya Harding fans out there apparently. Meanwhile, US darling Nancy Kerrigan's bio ranks in at 4.5 stars; she is also the new co-host on their programme "Stars on Ice - Skating with Celebrities", kind of like a more slippery version of our "Dancing with the Stars".

The New Virus - Lethal! - Beware

It has come to my attention that a new and extremely dangerous virus abounds.

The infectious little sod has the capacity to assume one's identity on communication means such as MSN, YIM, write daft spam on forums and blogspots, as well as send SMS and make late night phone calls under the guise of the infected person.

Yes, dangerous but true - the virus is called Copiousamountsofwine and the victim is often infected by supposedly innocent and well-meaning friends at dinner. It is shaping up to have far-reaching long-term affects, potentially wiping out the victim's entire friend group.

The only treatment known for the virus is to physically withstrain the person infected (often requires several very strong people),or put them to bed immediately until all symptoms have subsided.

Just to let you know the wonderful news that I have been re-employed in the real world. Yes - I am now a Principal PI Underwriter (you can refer to me as "BeeJay - PI" if you like lol ;), which basically means I deal with lawyers getting sued - how funny is that!

I have enjoyed this cyberlife, well elements of it anyhow, and wish you all well.

I hope to still blog when time permits tho, just maybe not quite so late at night!! :nods:

It annoys me that when you go to a Cafe, the default bread with any purchase still seems to be white bread.

You would think in this edging-towards health conscious age there should be a move towards wholemeal or at least grainy type breads being the standard. I mean even McDonalds put real chicken in their mcnuggets nowadays!

I often forget I specifically have to ask for wholemeal bread then end up presented with this butter laden piece of preservative filled white processed product. Ok, I should be less mindless when ordering, but it annoys me anyhow. Does anyone apart from my sister still really prefer white bread?
